Moon Void Of Course
The Moon’s astrological sign changes every two to two and one half days, as She is the fastest moving of all planets in the zodiac. Her luna transits indicate daily and hourly moods, which can change as quickly as the Moon’s sign.
Just before the Moon enters a new sign, it will have one last aspect with one of the planets. Between that last major aspect and the entrance of the Moon into the next sign, it is said to be "void of course."
The Moon void, of course, is a peculiar thing. But look at it this way. The Moon is the emotional "tone" of the day, carrying feelings with Her particular to the sign she’s "wearing" at the moment. She rules instinct, that way of "knowing" without really knowing. After she has contacted each of the planets, she symbolically "rests" before changing her costume, so her instincts are temporarily on hold. Without the instinctual "knowing" the Moon provides as she touches each planet, we tend to be unrealistic or exercise poor judgment. The traditional definition of the v/c Moon is that "nothing will come of this," and it seems to be true. It is hard to understand why it would make any difference whether or not the Moon was done making major aspects, as it approached a new sign. Yet, experience has shown that it does in deed have a significant and reliable effect. It has been found that decisions made while the moon is void of course never come to fruition in the way intended, and usually not at all. So the astrological rule is to avoid making decisions when the Moon is void of course and certainly not doing any kind of magickal workings. Decisions that are made during that time are usually later seen to be based on delusion or an unrealistic presumption. It has also been observed that deluded and unrealistic people usually choose this time for making decisions with greater frequency. So, when the Moon is void of course, do not make decisions. Carry on routine activities that had previously been planned. Most importantly, do not do any magickal workings when the Moon is Void of Course.
Many people feel scattered or without direction during the void period. It is a good time for introspection/reflection and getting centered and focused. Often, purchases made during this time turn out to be poorly made, left unused, plagued with mechanical problems, or generally a bad investment.
It is nearly impossible in today’s world to put off all decisions every time the Moon is void, but try to avoid this period for the most important ones. Or, try to make the decision before the Moon is void, and then act on the decision at this time. Most importantly, when doing magickal workings, always consult your calendar and work around the Void. You will basically be wasting your time if you do any kind of magick when the Moon is Void. The world cannot stop, but you can do what you can to help things work better for yourself.
Some Witches say that Witches of old did not concern themselves with the Void, so why should they? However, we know more of how things work. Simply because they did not know or understand how the Void worked does not make them right. We have to move forward on the knowledge that has become available to us.
